Why we Exist

J In Somalia, persistent gaps in legal awareness, weak institutional capacity, and limited access to justice continue to marginalize communities and undermine public trust in the rule of law. Too often, individuals are unable to understand, claim, or defend their rights.

We believe that when people understand the law and institutions are strengthened to serve the public interest, justice becomes a lived reality rather than an abstract promise. Through education, advocacy, and civic action, JDI works to ensure that the law functions as a tool for protection, participation, and social transformation.

How We Serve Communities .

The Justice and Development Initiative (JDI) serves communities by advancing justice, the rule of law, and inclusive development through legal empowerment, advocacy, and civic engagement.

We operate as a collaborative platform that brings together legal professionals, law students, and communities to expand access to justice, promote public legal awareness, and protect human rights—particularly for marginalized and underrepresented groups. Our work is carried out independently and impartially, and is guided by the principles of non-discrimination, equity, and public service.

Through education, advocacy, and direct action, JDI endeavors to foster a legally empowered society—one in which individuals understand their rights, institutions are strengthened to serve the public interest, and the law functions as a driver of human dignity, accountability, and sustainable development.
